BAT#82: PEP, CPR, & AED Training

Los Altos Mayor Lynette Lee Eng as a choking “victim” while Santa Clara County Fire Captain & Paramedic Denise Gluhan demonstrates the proper technique.

BAT#82 held a Personal Emergency Preparedness Training and learned how to perform CPR and use an automatic external defibrillator (AED).

Funded by a City of Los Altos Community & Emergency Preparedness Grant, and taught by the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the all-day training was held in the Neutra House in Los Altos and included lunch.

Neighbors from several Block Action Teams attended and learned how to:

  1. Build a disaster supply kit (including information on home and workplace preparedness, fire safety, & treating life-threatening conditions)
  2. Perform high-quality compressions on an adult, child, and infant (Most often, citizens will need to perform CPR on family, friends or co-workers in the precious moments before first responders arrive)
  3. Utilize an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  4. Aid an adult, child, or infant who is choking

The grant funds will also sponsor up to five community members to attend Community Emergency Response Team training.
