BATs Receive Emergency Preparedness Grants

The Earthquake Country Alliance (ECA) recently announced the recipients of the 2019 Bay Area Mini-Awards which assist efforts to improve earthquake resilience, promote awareness and preparedness, and to multiply the impact of preparedness programs.

These $500 mini-awards fund earthquake-related projects, with priority given to proposals for mitigation activities, in the ECA Bay Area region.

Los Altos PREPARES sponsored applications for five Block Action Team (BAT) neighborhood groups, and all five BATs received mini-awards:

BAT 35, Ed Yu
BAT 52, Sue Hiller
BAT 105, Patricia Evans
BAT 108, Cheryl Branson
Forming BAT, Karen Han

These BATs received “Secure 10 Homes” packages with supplies residents can use to secure their homes’ contents against earthquakes: furniture straps, tabletop electronics straps, picture hooks, cabinet door latches, gas shut off wrenches, flat screen TV straps, et. al. In August, the Earthquake Country Alliance will invite these BAT leaders to speak at their ECA Bay Area Regional Workshop to share their neighborhoods’ experience/results with emergency preparedness managers and volunteers from across the region.

Congratulations to these BATs on receiving the ECA Mini-Awards and on their leadership in helping their neighborhoods prepare.
